“I can create something out of nothing,”* says Jean-Paul Romac – and engraving is his means of doing so. The former engineer and jack-of-all-trades uses it to tell stories, to work and to find joy in the process.

For the past ten years, he has been drawing inspiration from the sea in his studio in Camaret-sur-Mer: “Fish, waves, boats… It just fits here by the sea.” Yet his art goes far beyond that.

For him, the engraving process is crucial: the precise cutting and marking of the plates to create a permanent matrix for printing on paper – always in limited editions. Everything becomes a source of inspiration for his works: plants, acanthus, nude nymphs, goddesses, the sea and its landscapes. His prints combine artisanal precision with mythological depth and the beauty of the Breton coast.

Each work is a unique, one-off piece.
